PT Bahtera Hijau Lestari (BHL) is an agro industry company which is focus on Biorenewable Energy. Since 2006, we have intensively researched for one crop call Sunan Candlenut (Aleurites Trisperma BLANCO, Kemiri Sunan). Sunan Candlenut is a crop that can produce plant oil as raw material of biodiesel while its canopy functions as conservation crop. The plant oil is not edible oil because it s toxic. And based on our research, it indicates that Sunan Candlenut has very high potential to produce biodiesel more than known other crops.
In 2008, BHL has planted more than 60.000 trees of Sunan Candlenut in unused land at West Java Indonesia. These plantings are in line with Government program i.e. land Rehabilitation program under Agricultural Department of Republic of Indonesia
For elaborating our basic research, in 2009, we have made Joint Aggreement with BALITTRI (Balai Penelitian Tanaman Rempah Dan Aneka Tanaman Industri - Indonesian Spice and Industrial Crops Research Institute, ISICRI, http://balittri.litbang.deptan.go.id/) for further research.
BHL has also engaged with local community at Majalengka, west Java Indonesia i.e. local cooperative and Majalengka Forestry Department for Planting and Off-taking the product of Sunan Candlenut. This kind of engagement is an effort from BHL for increasing Sunan Candlenut supply in the next 3 years.
Currently, BHL has owned its nursery for more than 500.000 trees in West Java, Indonesia and it will be enough for 10.000 Ha planting area in unused land of West Java Forestry Department of Republic of Indonesia.
BHL has been also developing its seedling plantation in the areal of 6 Ha in Subang, West Java. From this seedling plantation, it can supply more than 100.000 Ha per year planting surrounding Indonesia.
Besides the seedling plantation, BHL is preparing its own Sunan Candlenut plantion in South Kalimantan for the area totally 22.000 Ha. This plantation can supply 220.000 Ton Bio Sunan Candlenut oil in the next 4 years.
